Learn About: Healthy Behaviors

There are three behaviors that are essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. These include adequate sleep, a balanced diet and stress reduction.

Adequate Sleep
Getting an adequate amount of sleep is important for everyone, no matter what age. Here are guidelines for adequate sleep and rest:

Balanced Diet
Eating a balanced diet and being physically active will help with productivity and energy levels.

  • Follow the “Healthy Plate” guidelines for all meals
  • Look for foods that fit the 5/10 rule: 5 grams of fat, 10 grams of sugar per serving
  • Try being active for at least 30 minutes a day

Stress Reduction
Handle peer teasing in a beneficial manner to alleviate stressors associated with being bullied.

  • Try different coping mechanisms to determine which one works best.
  • One strategy may work in one type of situation and not in another; have a couple back up ideas.
  • Talk to a parent or other adult about the situation.
